Denka Seiken Introduces New DD Checker Contact Agar Medium for the Detection of Lactic Acid Bacteria

Denka Seiken Co. Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) announced on March 18, 2006 that it began shipping its DD Checker MBCP Agar Medium to customers in Japan on March 3rd. This new contact agar plate can selectively detect lactic acid bacteria from foods sucha as processed meats, tomato-based products, salad dressings, etc. and the environment with a high degree of accuracy, thus assisting the food industry improve production and quality control. Lactic acid bacteria are spoilage organisms which can shorten the shelf life and contribute to degradation of product quality so their monitoring in such foods and the physical environment can help in taking preventative actions to prevent food spoilage. Sales of approximately US $200,000 are expected in fiscal 2008.
